Reportedly, legendary Q-Tip has inked a deal with Kanye West imprint G.O.O.D. Music. Tip’s next album The Last Zulu will be released under the G.O.O.D. Music label. Q-Tip had this to say about the union:
“I’m excited to be a part of the great iconic Def Jam label,” said Q-Tip. “I’m humbled to be a part of such a storied history. To reconnect with Barry Weiss is a great thing. As far as G.O.O.D. Music, I’m excited to solidify my working relationship with Kanye, and I look forward to all the opportunities that lie ahead in our partnership. I will do my best to present the most cutting edge music I can.”
Smart move on Kanye’s part. All the production Q-Tip does, its sure to come in handy at the GOOD Music compound. Let’s be honest Q-Tip’s albums aren’t flying off the shelves so any deal to keep him working is a good one. I don’t know the details of the agreement, but I’m almost certain it’s either a 360 deal or has a production deal included in the contract. Q-Tip’s true value in the game today is production, so why wouldn’t Kanye exploit that. Either way both parties come out good.
