New Orleans rapper, Dee-1, has a positive message to share, in fact it’s a fiscally responsible one. In his new music video “No Car Note” Dee-1 expresses how he’s happy not having a monthly car payment and how he prefers his 1998 Honda Accord opposed to a fancy and expensive car that has a car note.
This is a different direction for rap, as the rap culture has normalized wasteful spending and irresponsible money-saving habits. However, Dee-1 is one of the few (if not, only) rappers to bring light to this murky subject and help individuals see things differently when it comes to saving money and being flashy.
Dee-1 messages are wrapped into clever deliveries with funky beats and production. Therefore, he doesn’t just spread a message, but he also entertains and gets the crowd grooving. This is music you can rock to, while enjoying something positive. This is as real as it gets.
