Cory Gunz was arrested yesterday (Saturday 1/28) in the land of the mandatory two-year minimum state of New York for carrying a loaded gun. The YMCMB artist was detained yesterday afternoon around 2PM by NYPD when they noticed Cory being followed by a mob of fans.
The police claim they did not know who Cory Gunz was, they just saw kids following him around. They searched his belongings and found a loaded pistol in his backpack. He was arrested on the spot and taken to 43rd Precinct in the Bronx, but has since been transferred to central booking at E. 161st Street in the Bronx.
Although this is Cory’s first offense, there is legitimate concern that he may have to do jail time, because New York mandates jail time for any offense involving the illegal possession of a loaded weapon. Cory will likely need to make a case of illegal search to beat these charges.
Cory father, Peter Gunz had this to say,
“At the end of the day, there’s a reason for everything, but at the same time, in New York, it’s mandatory jail time.
To go to a precinct and see your son, your junior, in handcuffs, it’s heartbreaking. Anytime you see your child in jail, in the cell, in handcuffs, it’s very hard. He’s walked down some of the same paths that I walked down, but you never want to see your kids go through what you went through.
This is Cory’s first offense, but sometimes they like to make an example out of rappers and people with any kind of celebrity to them.”
Our prayers goes out to Cory and his family, let’s hope he makes a safe return home without the courts trying to make an example out of a famed rapper with no criminal past, who likely carried the weapon for his own protection and not to commit any criminal acts. It is ironic though that Cory GUNZ gets caught with a GUN.
